10-Year-Old Bowie Resident Organizes Inaugural Fun Run & Walk for Kids

runwalkflyerv3--vistaprintKids Encouraged to Join “For Kids by Kids” Event on April 27

WHAT: Kids from Bowie and surrounding areas are invited to join a “for kids by kids” Fun Run & Walk for Kids. Jodi Evans, a 10-year-old Bowie resident, is organizing the event to inspire her peers to get moving and have fun at the same time.

WHY: Childhood obesity is at epidemic levels. 1 in 3 kids is already overweight or obese and many kids need to find fun and easy ways to get more physical activity.

As part of her year of service on the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Youth Advisory Board, Jodi decided to organize a Fun Run & Walk for Kids. Jodi created the idea “because I like to play outside and so I think creating an event to play outside is a great way to get active.”

WHO: All youth between 5-16 years-old are invited to join the event.

The Run & Walk is being hosted at Bowie High School and partners and supporters include the City of Bowie, Bowie Wellness Council, Bodyeffx, Fit Fathers, LLC and KidsBeingFit
