The Art of Double Dutch with the Greenbelt Sity Stars Jump Rope Team

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

Jump roping is a conditioning exercise to be reckoned with, and when you install the lost art form of double dutch then best believe your child’s skillsets will be elevated beyond normalcy which allows for better technique in his or her other sports. Enter the Greenbelt Sity Stars Jump Rope Team who recently hosted a performance fundraiser in Greenbelt, MD. The boys and girls on the squad are dedicated, focused, super fit and coordinated.

For example, my daughter has excelled at a rapid pace in her first season with the team. Thanks to the hard work ethic instilled by Coach Kim Bradshaw, Aya is now able to complete multiple, full routines succinctly. Jumping teaches coordination, adaption of new lessons and patterns and of course physical fitness and endurance. Aya is now quicker and stronger than ever which helps with her soccer, running and basketball.

It certainly doesn’t hurt to give your kid a shot at it. For more info on the team visit www.greenbeltsitystars.org.

Road Runner Sports Adventure Run

Experienced by Kyle Ayoung

The Fit Fathers crew had another great Adventure Run with Road Runner Sports at the Rockville, MD store in anticipation of Fit Fathers Day on June 19th.  June is Men’s Health Month so the monthly fun run and treasure hunt was right on point with its healthful messaging and fitness focused activities.

Road_Runner_Sports_Adventure_Run_02

The goal was to run for 60 minutes while stopping at as many checkpoints as possible where each runner would earn raffle tickets for a chance to win a whopping $3,000 in prizes such as new shoes or Thule backpacks. Adidas was on deck providing runners with their latest products to test the shoe’s vitality and comfort levels. Fit Fathers hosted a fun checkpoint and had the females give us 15 push ups and the males 25 push ups. Another pit stop was at Gym Source where participants had to clock two minutes on any of the exercise machines.

The energy was vibrant and the socializing was upbeat. We look forward to the next Adventure Run in July. See you there!

2016 College Park Mother’s Day 5K

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

It was a glorious Saturday morning in College Park, Maryland for the 3rd Annual College Park Mother’s Day 5K put on by the College Park Community Foundation (CPCF). Fresh off five straight days of rain the sun broke through and blessed us with the perfect amount of energy for the family fun run. We’re so proud of everyone for rising early and energizing their lives.

The Fit Fathers team was on deck with both experienced, first time runners and walkers to show solidarity and support of one of God’s greatest treasures. My cousin Havena Rawlins drove down from Delaware with personal trainer Jermaine to participate in her first ever 5K. It was amazing seeing her cross the finish line, and with the sweat to prove it. Yeah baby, you did it! Also, the father of my daughter’s best friend – John Bryant — was equally excited since it was his first official race although he is an avid runner. His wife Bibby and her friend also participated.

The Garage Social Workout

Fit-Fathers-GarageSocial-Workout

There is absolutely nothing wrong with putting in a workout in your garage. Actually I prefer them. So this past Sunday I went for a 4-mile run then invited a group of Fit Fathers and my daughter for a garage workout at the crib. Boxing, sprints, spin bike, slam ball and ab work was the recipe for 90 minutes. Everyone had a blast burning calories while communing. We have decided to make this a weekly session and encourage all of our Fit Fathers to do the same with their  network of friends and family. Enjoy!

After School Basketball with the Kids

Fit-Fathers-Kids-Basketball-afterschool-programs-hoops

We had an amazing time playing basketball against the boys and girls at the neighborhood elementary school this past week. It was four parents against 20 of those minions. Talk about hustle. None of us has ever had to dribble that much to get down the court.

The idea was sparked by Kids After Hours, a Montgomery County Maryland organization that sets up programs for your kids before and after school. They organize active events, sports, games and competitions to keep your pride and joy burning calories constantly. So how could the Fit Fathers team turn down an offer to play against a football team of 3rd, 4th  and 5th graders? It was amazing. Suffice to say, we encourage all dads to participate in your child’s sporting and after school activities whenever possible. The euphoric vibes and elation are beneficial to both parties. Work can wait, your child’s memories and emotions cannot!
