Men’s Nike LunarEpic Flyknit 2: Run Free

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

It’s been a mild winter in Maryland with the first day of March being no different. Yet, as spring approaches I begin to transition back into full running mode after mountain biking, indoor spinning, and strength training during the colder months. So of course I was anxious to try out Nike’s new LunarEpic Flyknit 2 running shoe for men which I received in grey with the black swoosh along with a fresh, matching outfit. Launched in early February the 8.8-ounce shoe (size 10) currently lists for $160 at various retailers including Road Runner Sports. [Read more…]

The LEGO Batman Movie Review: Comedic Family Bonding

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

Team Rawlins had a great time at a VIP screening of The Lego Batman Movie in Downtown Silver Spring, MD at the Regal Majestic Stadium 20 & Imax this past weekend. The comedic superhero feature was hilarious but simultaneously emotional as it touched on the meaning of family. I encourage all Fit Fathers to plan an outing with the kids next weekend and enjoy a day of bonding. Oh yeah, Batman (Will Arnett) kept it fitness focused with his abs of steel which actually saved the day! [Read more…]

strider-3

Experienced by Adrian McQueen

As a parent one of the greatest bonding moments with your child is teaching him or her how to ride a bicycle. I am a Fit Father of a 1-year-old daughter and didn’t see this experience happening in at least another few years. Well, Strider decided to expedite the timeline with the introduction of their Rocking Base that attaches to the 12” Strider Balance Bike. Strider describes it as a bike with no pedals designed with only foot propulsion to educate kids on the fundamentals of riding. [Read more…]

Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Headphones: Noise Cancellation Optimized

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

You could say I live in the friendly skies since hitting the 2-million mile mark on United Airlines at the ripe old age of 42. On average I commute through the air 200,000 base miles annually which sends me anywhere from Cambodia to San Diego. Of course globetrotters pack and bring along their true essentials during each journey like clockworks. My formula includes a Macbook Air so I can continue writing, a bag of trail mix, organic green tea, a few educational books and now a pair of laudable QuietComfort 35 (QC35) noise-cancelling, over-the-ear headphones. Trust me, you will be at peace (in style) mile high with a set of Bose’s latest sound innovation. [Read more…]

Strider Bikes Introduces Strider Rocking Base for Babies 12-24 Months

rocker_base_red_sport_right_anglew

Strider Sports Int’l., Inc., the world’s premier manufacturer and marketer of children’s no-pedal balance bikes, has identified an even younger group of potential bike riders – toddlers, ages 12-24 months, just learning to stand and walk.

According to Strider Founder and Chief Enthusiast, Ryan McFarland, “a baby who rocks becomes a future Strider rider! We all know babies enjoy rocking horses when they are small. The problem is that no child ever gets to graduate from the rocker and ride off into the sunset and experience the freedom that the Strider Bike can offer. This modular system that converts a rocker (for a baby) into a balance bike (for a toddler or young child) is one of the many unique values that our brand represents.” [Read more…]

Headphones are an essential part of working out, but wireless models can still get in the way with designs that hurt, aren’t stable, and sound weak. SoundSport headphones make wireless training better. They use a special sport-version of StayHear+ tips designed to stay secure and comfortable during exercise. Made from soft, flexible silicone, their umbrella shape creates a gentle seal in the ear, while an extended wing “locks” in the fit.

For indoors or outside, SoundSport headphones are sweat and water resistant with powerful audio performance. Their inline mic and remote let users stay focused while skipping songs, adjusting volume, or taking and making calls.

There is nothing like staying fit as you ride to and from the California Roots Reggae Festival this weekend! Yes, California Roots has partnered with Green Pedal Couriers to bring you the official Bike and Skateboard Valet of the fest. This is a perfect scenario to influence showgoers to stay active while reducing the carbon footprint of visitors to Monterey. The Fit Fathers group will certainly be taking advantage.

So feel free to cycle or skate from your hotel or parking lots down the way. Make sure to head over to gate 8 this year.

GREEN PEDAL COURIERS

GPC (Green Pedal Couriers) has been serving the Monterey and Salinas areas since 2008 delivering food, court documents, medical specimens, promotional ads and posters for local art and music festivals.

BICYCLE VALET SERVICE

GPC started the bicycle Valet service in 2010 in partnership with Monterey Green Action of CSUMB. Their basic duties include watching parked bicycles and parking and sticking numbers on bikes. Customers will receive a slip/receipt and answers to basic questions about GPC and what the company does for the community. GPC’s bike valet service allows others to ride rather than drive, essentially reducing traffic, air pollution, noise pollution and road rage. They are encouraging clean air, resource conservation and happy communities.

2016 Ghost Kato X 27.5 Mountain Bike

2016-Ghost-Kato-X27.5-Hardtail-Mountain-Bike

Now available at REI — the exclusive U.S. retailer for this German engineered line of mountain bikes —  Ghost has entered 2016 with a cadre of lighter, stiffer and cooler rides. Plus the 27.5″ wheels offer greater cornering control than the 29ers but still continue to eat up ground as your pedal your heart out.

Much like the Tacana X, it’s the frame that makes the difference. Shorter, more agile geometry, a high-end frame finish, and an optional dropper seat post will give you that extra confidence when the terrain becomes exciting. Factor in the light weight and you will find yourself taking time out of your training buddies which is precisely what you want in a mountain bike. A step up from the standard Kato hardtail line, it’s perfect if you’re looking to upgrade from your first bike. Starts at $1,699.00.

Details:

  • Hydroformed aluminum frame is stiff and strong; slack head tube angle allows good control on descents; steep seat tube angle creates an efficient riding position for climbs
  • 27.5-in. wheels offer an optimal mix of control, speed and maneuverability
  • Rock Shox Reba RL, Solo Air fork features 120mm of travel to smooth uneven terrain, remote lockout for climbing, and QR 15 axel for stiffness and guaranteed wheel alignment
  • Shimano Deore double crankset is paired with a 10-speed, 11-36t cassette for a wide gear range capable of the steepest climbs and descents
  • Shimano Deore SL shifters and Deore XT plus rear derailleur work together to transition quickly and smoothly through the gear range
  • Shimano Deore XT Plus rear derailleur reduces chain slap and increases shifting accuracy over the roughest of terrain
  • Shimano hydraulic disc brakes and 180mm rotors provide powerful one-finger braking and exceptional modulation
  • Schwalbe Rocket Ron 27.5 x 2.25 tires excel in the toughest of trail conditions, including mud, hard-packed, rocky and loamy environments
