Jamaica’s Reggae Marathon: Come For The Run, Stay For the Fun!

rm-logoThe coastal resort of Negril in Jamaica will come alive on Saturday, December 7, 2013 as runners and walkers take to the street for the thirteenth renewal of the Reggae Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K. Listed over five times amongst the world’s top ten marathons, and famous for its 5:15 a.m., torch-lit, pre-dawn start, the event affords runners and walkers from all over the world an IAAF certified course along Negril’s internationally famous coastline and the opportunity to vie for over US $10,000 in prize money and “bling” finishers medals.

According to Alfred Francis, Race Director of the event since its inception, Reggae Marathon has sought to “present a marathon with a difference. We not only offer uniquely packaged water and rehydration fluids and the World’s Best Pasta Party which incorporates popular Jamaican foods, but the pulsating sounds of reggae music prevail throughout providing motivation for all participants.”

The Marathon event, Mr. Francis adds “is also truly international as we continue to attract and welcome participants from over thirty countries as close as the Caribbean region and as far away as Japan and Europe.” Thus far this year, overseas groups such as Black Girls Run, Reggae Rebels, Runners Mark and the Running Girlz of Canada, have already registered to participate. In-country registration begins at the Couples Swept Away Sporting Complex in Negril on Thursday, December 5. Participants and visitors to the event can also enjoy the JHTA ‘World’s Best’ Pasta Party at the same venue on Friday, December 6. Online registration has been opened since December 2012 and is still ongoing at www.reggaemarathon.com.

During the main event on Saturday, December 7 participants and their guests are invited to enjoy the victory party dubbed the “Beach Bash” and Awards Ceremony at the Long Bay Beach Park. Further information and updates can be accessed at www.reggaemarathon.com.Jamiaca-Reggae-Marathon-2012
