Being a father is one thing, but living the lifestyle of a Fit Father means so much more when it comes to raising energetic and healthy children. We are proud to be a part of the Fit Fathers movement which empowers dads of all nationalities and ages to take part in healthier living. Spearheaded by Kimatni Rawlins, the fatherhood platform keeps me accountable in relation to my family and I exercising and making positive choices.
I teach my children the importance of knowledge of self, honesty, building strong connections with family and close friends and living a nourishing and productive lifestyle. Life is not just about working and taking vacations. There comes a point when we have to realize what our priorities are and the impact they have on everything else important to us.
As I mature and witness my son and daughter develop and grow, it has become central to pay close attention to my eating and exercise habits so that I will be around longer to enjoy quality time with them and friends alike.
Fit Fathers is the beginning of something much greater than what it is today and I am personally excited to be a part of the journey.
Stay Active My Friends!!
Welcome to the newfound health promoting world of John Engler, an Austin, Texas father of two who recently quit smoking and took up running after his son Jack asked for help in learning how to run. John obliged and in the process of striding with Jack they collectively learned to love the energizing fitness activity. Pretty soon up to 12 neighborhood kids and two other dads became involved for evening runs on Mondays and Wednesdays. Way to go John, and please do keep us posted on this amazing group.
Question for readers: Have you ever thought about organizing a group like this in your neighborhood? Well, as Nike would say, just do it. You just might be surprised at how many individuals will want to get out and kick it with you! Remember, stay active, eat clean and continue to energize your life!

When my wife showed me the Fit Fathers website and the 2015 Fit Fathers Day celebration in Silver Spring, MD, I was immediately on board. Fit Fatherhood is an inspirational platform to help fathers stay in shape for the health benefits and to keep up with their energetic kiddos as they grow into athletes. The website is full of nutritional eating tips, social workouts, healthy lifestyle ideas and fun family activities. Becoming a father is one of the most rewarding and challenging events of my life. My perspective on the world continuously changes as I try to be the best father I can to my two girls. It certainly helps tremendously by having such a loving and devoted wife as we raise these two rambunctious, beautiful ladies and adopt the Fit Fathers platform to our lifestyle! I applaud the founders for their inspiration and vision as they cultivate a friendly environment for all through their social outreach and events. Keep up the great work!

Group exercise routines, dancing, Double Dutch teams, fitness contests, smiles and laughter accurately depicts what took place at the 2nd Annual Fit Fathers Day (FFD) celebration. Typical Father’s Day ideas consist of brunches or cookouts so the Fit Fathers team decided to shake things up a bit. We brought the celebration back to Veterans Plaza in Downtown Silver Spring, MD from 10 am to Noon, still leaving time for families to go along with their regularly scheduled plans. Fit Fathers, DaddysCool.com and Powerful Beyond Measure came together to show fathers the importance of being health conscious and leading by example through positive, nutritional choices. The Fit Fathers Foundation believes health, fitness and nutrition can help fathers live longer and challenges all dads to eat clean, stay active and continuously energize their lives!
An energetic Social Workout was led by Fit Fathers’ founder Kimatni Rawlins, celebrity trainer Michael Bance and 12-year-old fitness guru Jodi Evans, while DJ Blinks mixed sounds behind a stellar Bose audio system to keep everyone entertained. A special 80s and 90s mix was put together for our Terminator Genisys movie workout. Movie posters, premiere tickets and t-shirts were given to the FFD attendees. Fitness contests, family workouts and activities, an inflatable obstacle course, healthy snacks, health screenings, gift bags and demonstrations gave this Father’s Day event something for everyone. Another highlight was the timed fitness course that crowned James Swink Mr. Fit Father 2015. He won four Yokohama tires as the grand prize.
FFD is possible due to Mazda, Volkswagen, Children’s National, Wegmans, The Washington Auto Show, DC Capital Striders and City Sports. The event also highlighted the amazing work of our community and media partners including: African American Health Program, Street Wize Foundation, National Black Child Development Institute, LoveLife Foundation, 14th Legislative District (Montgomery County), Action for Healthy Kids, Aspire Sports Drink, Automotive Rhythms, Bance Fitness, Creative Edge PR, African American Health Program, Embrace Kids, Fathers Incorporated, Fit For Life, Greenbelt S.I.T.Y. Stars, Healthyblackmen.org, Kids Being Fit, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (Dr. Neal Barnard), Men’s Health Network, Mocha Moms, Kids Being Fit, Shoe City, SOULCYCLE, Strive 2 Tri, The Boot Camp Girl, Throttle Life, Vegan Pro, Meatless Monday, Montgomery County, MD Dept. of Police, Center for Nutrition Studies and Washington Sports Club.
Also, NFL players Jason McCourty of the Tennessee Titans and Adrian Coxson of the Green Bay Packers, who attended the celebration, served as Fit Fathers’ National Ambassadors for the momentous occasion.
We thanked attendees for supporting our cause with prizes and giveaways courtesy of Aspire Beverages Baltimore, City Sports, SOULCYCLE, Bose Audio, Under Armor, Shoe City and Mothers car care. Through social media and the use of the hashtag #FitFathersDay appearing across multiple newsfeeds, there is already an air of anticipation for Fit Fathers Day 2016. We greatly appreciate our sponsors and partners who recognized the vision and helped bring FFD to fruition. A very special thank you is in order for all the patrons and volunteers who attended and participated.
Although Fit Fathers Day is a special occasion to recognize Dads during their time of celebration, our mission is to also become active with, Moms, kids and families throughout the year. Stay tuned for more Fit Fathers events as we move forward to engage with different communities around the country. Enjoy the photo gallery.

It’s important on Father’s Day and each subsequent day that dads and male role models spearhead this call to action by taking time out to engage in physical fitness and employ healthy food choices with their families. It is a fact that health risks are increased in men 20 years and older, and with added stress and more responsibilities a father is at a higher risk of various potential problems. So keep in mind that exercising and healthy eating saves generations.
Become a Fit Father by following these simple steps to lead your family to a healthier lifestyle.
I pledge to become a Fit Father and will …
- attend my doctor’s office for routine checkups and screenings.
- exercise 3 to 5 days a week for 30 to 45 minutes minimum and include my children in most fitness activities.
- eat 3 to 7 pieces of fruit and veggies daily.
- drink 8 to 10 glasses of water daily.
- limit or eliminate sodas, candy and pastries entirely.
- limit or eliminate fried foods entirely.
- limit or avoid carcinogens entirely: smoking, drugs and heavy alcohol.
- replace enriched white foods with whole grains (quinoa, brown rice, etc.)
- Never eat with less than 3 hours in-between bedtime.
- spend quality time with my children daily.
- on Fathers Day June 19th enjoy one hour of energetic activities with my loved ones such as a 5K to 10K run, family bike ride, soccer, hiking, ball games, swimming or a simple walk through the park with nature.
Stay active, eat well and energize your life!
Health, fitness, nutrition and overall wellness are priorities for the extension of life. We must eat whole foods from the earth daily to achieve the balance of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients our bodies need. In addition, appropriate nourishment helps us function properly, perform sustainably and effectively fight off the onset of degenerative diseases such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and more. Regular exercise is required to maintain muscle mass, strengthen bones, balance blood sugar, stabilize weight, circulate blood and regulate the metabolism.
For this reason cornerback Jason McCourty of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans has pledged with Fit Fathers to continue steering his family towards proper health and nutrition. “Becoming a Fit Father has completely changed my life, everything I do I know my little princess will be watching,” McCourty states. “Staying fit and eating healthy will allow me to watch her grow into a beautiful, strong woman. It’s important to develop the habits “now” of a healthy lifestyle that will impact my entire family for decades to come.”
Jason McCourty is a starting cornerback for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Titans in the 6th round as the 203 overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played college football at Rutgers University with his twin brother Jason McCourty of the New England Patriots.
- Born: August 13, 1987 (age 27), Nyack, NY
- 40 yard dash time: 4.3 seconds
- Height: 6′ 0″ (1.83 m)
Jason and Devin McCourty were football standouts at Rutgers before moving onto the NFL where they are both currently starting defensive backs. Devin is a safety and team captain for the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots while Jason is a cornerback team captain for the Tennessee Titans. The twins were both recently recognized for their work on and off the field as they were both named “Walter Payton Man of the Year” by their respective NFL teams. “We have seen first hand the devastating effects of sickle cell on family members and we are choosing to use our platform to help families in similar situations,” said Jason. “This is something very personal to us and we’re thrilled to continue working with Embrace Kids Foundation,” added Devin.
Their work in the field of chronic disease awareness continues on Saturday, June 20, 2015, where the McCourty twins will be hosting the 3rd Annual Tackle Sickle Cell 5K Run/Walk in Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ. This event is the major fundraising component of the Tackle Sickle Cell Campaign. The Run/Walk is for all ages and will be followed by a celebration including music, food and fun at the park. Jason and Devin McCourty will be joined on this day by fellow members of the NFL and Rutgers football community.
So remember, eat clean, stay active and continuously energize your life!
