The small crossover utility market continues to be a hot topic as sales increase from active lifestyle consumers seeking solutions that appease their diverse needs. It drives smarter, works harder and plays longer.   [Read more…]

Eating Soulfully at Cafe Ono in Kona, Hawaii

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

For three days we zipped around the Big Island of Kona, Hawaii trekking to gardens, national parks, volcano sites, healthy eats and lava attractions. We admired the natives and their beautiful lives while they ogled in reply. Fun, energetic places make you want to engage in fun active routines such as the set of reverse dips I completed on the hitched Thule rack carrying our Specialized road bike while admiring the all-mighty Pacific during lunch break. But it was the food that really set the tone of our Hawaiian vacation.   [Read more…]

Under Armour Performance Center

Welcome to the Under Armour Performance Center at Headquarters in Baltimore, MD. Executives in marketing say the goal is to make sure employees stay fit at all costs. If you are surrounded by active energy and the requisite facilities are omnipresent, then the likelihood of maintaining fitness goals will become a permanent mindset. The platform includes group classes such as spinning, a boxing studio, strength training equipment, cardio machines and an outdoor turf field overlooking the water for individual skills and drills.

The Performance Center is also open to the public and of course visiting athletes. Hopefully the next Fit Fathers “Social Workout” will take place here. Stay tuned!

Travel Fitness: Fit Fathers in Monterey for Cali Roots

Welcome to Monterey, CA for the “Cali Roots” Memorial Weekend reggae festival. But, before we headed over to the Monterey Fairgrounds the team worked out with top effort. First was a 30-minute strength training session in the Hyatt’s “Stay Fit” gym, then a 3-mile run around the 22-acre property and finished up with wind sprints in the courtyard. Plus, the crew will walk a mile to the concerts, traverse the grounds for hours and finally walk back to the hotel. This is easy work when you eat nutritious whole foods daily, drink water over sugary drinks, exercise on most days and maintain overall positive vibrations. Lead by example my people. One Love!

Family & Friends Social Workout

How about fruit smoothies and “social workouts” at the local high school field along with a few friends and their families? That’s exactly what we did this weekend. Sprints, football drills, stadium stairs, hill work and more was the formula for the 75-minute metabolic workout with every man, woman and child that participated. Everyone is feeling refreshed and energized we’re told!

So please continue to encourage your loved ones and close buddies to join you for a fun and exciting workout with the kids. Then refresh with your favorite fruit smoothie such as the Tango Mango featuring apple juice, mangos, berries, bananas and flaxseeds.

September Health & Fitness Reboot

Word By Kimatni D. Rawlins
IMG_5895So the journey continues as we walk into the cool, leafy breeze of fall. I’ve had a great summer of clean eating, family fun, and fitness focused accomplishments. My plant-based diet has proven to be one of the best choices I’ve ever made in life. I’m running farther, faster and more efficiently. My strength remains close to the college glory years when I ran the rock for Georgia Tech. My thoughts are sharper and energy is elevated continuously. The kids love being young vegan warriors as well. Their understanding of empathy, compassion, love and care for the earthlings we humans share the planet with is touching. Plus they have the power of gorillas. I’ve yet to meet a little boy that can go toe to toe with either of my 10 and 7 year old girls. “Proud ” is an understatement! [Read more…]

Step-ups: How to Lift and Tone Your Butt

Step-ups Words by Michael Bance

The first and most effective strategy for reshaping your butt is to start performing proper weightlifting workouts.

To focus the lower portion of the butt the goal here is to lift the muscles. When completing “Step-ups” always make sure your feet are shoulder width apart. Secondly, ascertain your plant foot is placed center on the elevated object (bench or stepper).  The higher the step you use throughout the exercise the more you’ll be targeting the glutes, so really try to push yourself here.

Attempt 3 sets of 20 reps per leg and concentrate on technique and not speed. Remember, your plan is to sculpt!
