Biking Safety Tips by Trips For Kids Marin

Biking is a great way to form friendships, strengthen family bonds, get exercise, and reduce our impact on the environment. But, every child who gets on a bike needs to be prepared. According to Kaiser Permanente, more children between the ages of 5 and 14 get admitted to emergency rooms for bicycle-related injuries than any other activity-related injury. Kaiser stresses the importance of wearing a bicycle helmet and following 10 basic safety rules:

  1. Choose an Appropriate Bike

For Bike to Work Day, Bike to School Day or any other bike-riding adventure, it’s vital that kids are on the right bikes. Children should be able to have their hands on the handlebars and the balls of their feet touching the ground while they’re sitting on the seat. Don’t buy a bike your child will “grow into.” [Read more…]

Young Vegan Cyborg speaks on Plant-Based Nutrition and Daily Fitness

Sometimes the wellness inspiration comes from our seeds. For example, 11-year old Kaiyana Rawlins — the daughter of Fit Father’s founder Kimatni D. Rawlins — breaks down her love for sports, why she feels good on a daily basis, where energy for her four activities comes from (soccer, basketball, competitive jump rope and volleyball) as a vegan kid and minor challenges she faces amongst her peers. She also runs in between strength training and eats cruciferous green veggies like candy. So remember, always eat clean, stay active and continue to energize your life!

Disney-Pixar’s INCREDIBLES 2

In “Incredibles 2,” Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose superpowers are about to be discovered. Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side. That’s what makes this family so Incredible.

Roberto Tapia on Fit Fatherhood

My fatherhood habits are a lifestyle, an expression of love that has a beginning but no end. It’s a choice we make for 24 hours. The path I chose to be a Fit Father requires more sacrifice than any career but is also far more rewarding since my love for my kids is unconditional. I wouldn’t change the circumstances for the world!

Fit Fathers Mentorship

Fit Fathers’ founder Kimatni D. Rawlins mentors numerous kids and teens across the country to help them face the complexities of society with simple but strategic solutions. To kick off Black History Month at the Washington Auto Show he brought a few football mentees from his daughter’s high school — Paint Branch in Silver, Spring — to the ART-of-Motion display so they could see how the fruits of their labor is manifested! Amede and Alphonse are smart, kind, hardworking, and passionate. So of course we have to do more to continuously motivate and direct our  young men and women. They are the country’s future leaders!

Take a Walk Through Nature

For the preservation of life spend time within Mother Nature as much and as often as possible. With technology that continues to replace basic humans skills we must escape the digital world to maintain purity of the spirit, physical prowess, and mental clarity. Moreover, we must choose plant-based foods that enliven the mind and body opposed to processed, engineered, and animal products that degrade and deteriorate the fabric of our framework. Aptly so, neurogenesis is stifled when toxins control your foundation. It’s a way of life folks, not a temporary solution.

Ivan Lovegren on Fit Fatherhood

Fatherhood means being there, being available, and letting your children know they can take chances because someone is in their corner.  I don’t always want to carry my sons. I want them to know I will be standing right next to them even when they slow down to a crawl. Giving the kids the support to get started and being present when they turn to you, even if they have to forge the way themselves, is what I believe defines a father. I hope someday my kids will return the parenting skills to their siblings.

Little Vegan Athletes: The Art of Jumping

Aya Rawlins is always showing off on the rope scene with her team aka the Greenbelt Sity Stars at community events including the recent Fit Fathers Day!

The 11-year old has been 100% vegan since 4 years old and is now is a top jump roper in just seven months on her double dutch team. They practice three to five hours a day on weekends and two hours during the week. This spring Aya was on four sport teams including Basketball, Jump Rope and two Soccer teams. Three times a week she went to tow practices back-to-back and on Saturdays jumped three to five hours then played in her soccer game right after. Sunday was another round of dual games.

Her main fuel was bananas, smoothies and brown rice. Welcome to the world of a vegan athlete!

Fit Father Devin McCourty of the New England Patriots

Fatherhood has been amazing to me so far and I look forward to raising my child and strengthening the family bond. From Fit Father and husband responsibilities to playing on the field for the Patriots I have always approached every task with top leadership qualities. It’s been a joy watching my little girl grow and shine in just this first month. I’m eagerly anticipating my obligations along the way while showing her how to be a great and honorable individual.
