2018 Nissan Kicks: Smart is Cool

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

Nissan has a way of blessing their vehicles with an array of powerful and heroic names to define each’s individual character traits. From the Titan pickup and Armada full-size SUV to the Altima or Maxima sports sedans the labeling is perfect for consumers who are both proud of the auto brand they’ve chosen and the specific models that fit their lifestyles. Knowing that “smart” is now “cool” I’m sure Nissan’s latest compact crossover will venture into collaborations with A Tribe Called Quest and their cult hip hop classic, “Can I Kick It?”

Within this small car utility segment owners are searching for style, technology and moral value in a vehicle that impresses from aesthetics to comfort and tech features. Nissan will battle with the likes of the Hyundai Kona, Ford EcoSport and Kia Soul as it enters into steep competition within this popular and rapidly growing market segment. Ranging from $17,990 to $22,990 the Kicks comes as either the S, SV or SR and includes a variety of safety, intelligent and infotainment features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or NissanConnect which operate from a 7” touchscreen color display. A small touch, but there are also three USB ports to share. [Read more…]

2019 Volvo XC40: Refreshing SUV Delight

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

What fun times were had in Austin, Texas in cold, wet weather while test driving the all-new 2019 Volvo XC40 as I explored the eclectic and artsy city to connect the SUV’s urbane, Scandinavian Design with local fashion innovators, music studios and inventive carpenters. The vehicle was conceived for city commutes to handle abrupt turns and stop-n-go traffic, but also fares well on the outer banks as we discovered throughout our day-long journey.

It seems as though Volvo has completed their SUV family transformation which includes the XC90, XC60 and now the present day XC40. The Swedish automaker is set with premium utilities for every customer type with each representing innovation in the field of technology, safety, styling and human interface. In fact, you will see a cadre of premium features from the larger XC90 and midsize XC60 trickled down into the XC40. This is important because the compact, premium SUV category is currently as red hot as Chili peppers. Expect the segment to continue increasing exponentially as manufacturers from BMW to Infiniti keep adding to the melting pot. [Read more…]

2018 Audi SQ5 3.0T quattro tiptronic: Sporty Family Fun

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

I must say, this past week was one of Automotive Rhythms’ more thrilling automotive test drive experiences since we were piloting the 2018 Audi SQ5 3.0T quattro tiptronic compact-luxury SUV. Sporty, dynamic, and laden with advanced technology, the SQ5 is suitably fit for small families, adventurous singles, or young couples looking for enticement during each and every ride. Although, it felt more like a taller wagon in comparison to its bigger Q7 cousin, which means parking was never a qualm in crowded lots or on busy city streets. [Read more…]
