Fit Fathers 6th Annual Nomadic Journey: Kenya’s Maasai Mara & the Balance of Nature

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

Jambo! It’s the Swahili greeting I heard and repeated regularly throughout my 2-week journey in the Motherland to experience the beauty of nature in its purest and most divine form. The 6th Nomadic Journey — where I venture solo like a rover to rediscover life, disconnect from addictive American culture and explore deeper consciousness and spiritual freedom — brought me to the lands of Africa to spend time with the wild in their natural habitat within the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Southwest Kenya.

Majestic, serene and spiritual scenes left me in awe for the entirety of the trip and ultimately fulfilled some of my profoundest, transcendental aspirations. I began the long excursion from Washington, DC and traveled on United Airlines to Frankfurt and then Lufthansa to Nairobi. As a frequent traveler I always fly with the same airline alliance to earn miles, upgrades, respectable customer services, etc. After traveling almost 3-million miles with the Star Alliance I’ve earned a prestigious position for exceptional treatment. Arrival to Nairobi took place on Jamhuri Day which is a national holiday celebrated December 12th to commemorate Kenya’s attaining of independence. As you can imagine people were rejoicing with adulation across the country. [Read more…]

Mentoring Is Key To Their Success

Words by Kimatni Rawlins

Mentoring young black men is so fulfilling. Well, I mentor boys, girls, young men and young women from all ethnicities but special attention needs to be diverted to the black community. So I make it an “intention” to carve out time with my boys from the Paint Branch High School football team in Silver Spring, MD. This weekend was no different as I scooped up Amede, Garvin and Alfonse and headed to Great Falls Park to hike within the environs of Mother Nature. At 17 and headed to college, guidance in today’s America is far too important for each of them. From cultural awareness and police interaction to respecting women and learning about plant-based nutrition for their sports careers, the conversations are always educational. And being that I’m an active 45-year old Fit Father there is nothing they can do that I can’t do physically. Especially running! Most times I’m leading the pack since a healthy and fit lifestyle is what I’m known for. So I encourage more father figures, role models and potential mentors to step up to the plate and help our young men as often and consistently as possible. They need us!

Take a Walk Through Nature

For the preservation of life spend time within Mother Nature as much and as often as possible. With technology that continues to replace basic humans skills we must escape the digital world to maintain purity of the spirit, physical prowess, and mental clarity. Moreover, we must choose plant-based foods that enliven the mind and body opposed to processed, engineered, and animal products that degrade and deteriorate the fabric of our framework. Aptly so, neurogenesis is stifled when toxins control your foundation. It’s a way of life folks, not a temporary solution.
