Well, it’s quite apparent in this global era of wellness that we will all be spending more time at home to focus on safety. And with gyms and fitness clubs closed indefinitely, the next best remedies are to exercise outdoors and to convert home spaces into health solutions. So, why not exploit your garage to serve as a wellness center opposed to letting that valuable real estate go to waste storing items that have been idling for years.

I knew from the onset that my garage would not be housing automobiles; the driveway is suitable enough for this task. Quite naturally, I had a head start by constructing mines when I first moved in 14 years ago as an antidote to attain freedom from physical limitations. Healthy Vibes at California Roots Festival

We needed to hear more of the band Slightly Stoopid after their Cali Roots set on the opening evening so we ran 8 Monterey coastal miles to the vibes of “2Am” on repeat. The Fit Fathers team is now feeling refreshed, energized and recharged for today’s roots rock performances by Tarrus Riley, Stephen Marley and Damian Marley. Yes, it’s a movement!

Travel Fitness: Fit Fathers in Monterey for Cali Roots

Welcome to Monterey, CA for the “Cali Roots” Memorial Weekend reggae festival. But, before we headed over to the Monterey Fairgrounds the team worked out with top effort. First was a 30-minute strength training session in the Hyatt’s “Stay Fit” gym, then a 3-mile run around the 22-acre property and finished up with wind sprints in the courtyard. Plus, the crew will walk a mile to the concerts, traverse the grounds for hours and finally walk back to the hotel. This is easy work when you eat nutritious whole foods daily, drink water over sugary drinks, exercise on most days and maintain overall positive vibrations. Lead by example my people. One Love!

Fit Fathers Runs the DC Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon

DC-Rock-n-Roll-marathon-Kimatni-Rawlins-Chuka-Agugua-Rashawn-Ciers-Fit-FathersReady, set, rock is exactly what the Fit Fathers squad did this past Saturday in our nation’s capital for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. The camaraderie was pretty amazing since Chuka Agugua, Rashawn Ciers and I experienced the same brutal winter weather in Maryland with painfully, frigid 2-hour Saturday morning long runs. But the perseverance and determination paid off as we collectively ran one of our best races.

Needing only a banana and coconut water for fuel and electrolytes, I didn’t expect to break the 2-hour threshold because of the hills and of course very slow training runs. However, after hitting mile-6 in about 54 minutes I knew I could achieve more. My fellow Fit Fathers said they felt the same during the 13.1-mile mission. As a band of brothers we were energized with positive vibrations and the extension of life.

So remember, accomplishments do not manifest overnight. A quick fix is never the recipe for long-term success, especially with a healthy lifestyle change. Thank you #RNRDC for the experience!

2nd Annual Race for Every Child 5K run/walk at Freedom Plaza

Race For Every ChildBuilding on the success of its first-ever Race for Every Child last fall, Children’s National Health System announced the second annual Race will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Freedom Plaza in downtown Washington, DC. Registration is now open for individuals and teams on Race For Every Child.
