Journey Butler is not your normal teenager. Sure she knows all the new dances and latest technology and styles but you won’t see her glued to an electronic device or television. The 13-year-old is a cheerleader, a gymnast, a poet, a Hip Hop and ballet dancer, model and a member of the nationally competitive double-dutch jump rope team dubbed the Greenbelt S.I.T.Y. Stars. Over 3,900 participants took part in the energetic and life enhancing run while raising more than $600,000 for Children’s National Medical Center. Hyundai Hope On Wheels was on hand as usual to show support. By far the leading auto brand to help kids fight cancer, Hyundai raises awareness and donates funds for the research of the chronic and degenerative disease. Since 1998 every Hyundai dealer has contributed $14 from the sale of each vehicle to Hope On Wheels for an aggregate total of $72 million to children’s hospitals and organizations nationwide. What: Run 4 Hope: In September of 2011, Hyundai Hope On Wheels held its inaugural 5K Run/Walk in Rancho Santa Margarita, California. Their goal was to host a 5K Race where the entire community could come together to show their support for the cause. They expanded  their efforts and established a 5K Run/Walk Series with events in Irvine, CA, Chicago and Miami during September 2012 – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. More than 5,000 runners raised $274,000 for pediatric cancer research across those three races. Because of that success, Hope On Wheels has expanded.

September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month – a time to bring awareness to childhood cancer and recognize the young lives impacted by the disease. While pediatric cancer is relatively rare and research has created cure rates upwards of 80%, pediatric cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease for children in the United States. There are 15,000 new cases diagnosed each year and one in five of these children will not survive the disease.   Hyundai Hope On Wheels® is a 501(c)(3) is committed to helping kids fight cancer by providing funding for research and treatment, and through increasing awareness for the disease.  Since its inception in 1998, Hope On Wheels has provided over $72.6 million in life saving grants. Hyundai to Visit Capitol Hill as Part of 3rd Annual Childhood Cancer Summit

In connection with September National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Hyundai Motor America and Hyundai Hope On Wheels will be donating more than $10 million to fund pediatric cancer research at Children’s Oncology Group (COG) institutions across the United States. Since its inception in 1998, Hyundai Hope On Wheels has committed more than $57 million to childhood cancer research and programs for kids and families battling the disease. This year marks its largest year yet, with 41 hospital events scheduled, three 5K run/walks, and a series of events in Washington, D.C. surrounding the Childhood Cancer Caucus. In a bid to strengthen chances in the fight for a cure, Hope On Wheels raised the September Hope Grant award amount this year from $100,000 to $250,000. [Read more…]
