Kings Dominion’s National Roller Coaster Day Weekend

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

My youngest daughter Kaiyana (Aya) and I love summer road trips no matter the distance. Whether we are visiting family in South Jersey or headed to Virginia Beach for the waves, the one-on-one time together is always exciting. So, to all our Fit Fathers please make sure to hit the road to escort your kids to their favorite destinations before time is up and “back to school” anxieties kick in. It’s always ideal for the creation of intimate memories. For us the target was Kings Dominion in Doswell, VA this past weekend for the roller coaster experience including the speedy Intimidator 305.

Aya and I were coming from Silver Spring, MD which is about 2 hours down 95 South. However, Kings Dominion is just 15 minutes from Richmond, VA for the lucky ones. Our ride of choice to warp us there — a Hichroma Red 2018 Kia Stinger GT2 AWD V6 loaned to Fit Fathers for such purposes — was perfect in alleviating time concerns due to quick acceleration and racer like agility. Aya kept telling me to stop acting like I was operating a roller coaster since the power from the Twin Turbo 365-horsepower V6 was so addictive. I told her not to worry because we were blessed with Brembo brakes for immediate stopping power. “Brembo” she asked?

Free Your Mind at Shenandoah National Park

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

Interestingly enough I stumbled upon Shenandoah National Park after the need for an immediate getaway in the woods to free my mind. A nice rustic cabin, trails for hiking, running and epic scenery was my intention. Of course, I’ve always heard of Shenandoah but never had a chance to visit until now. Suffice it to say I enjoyed the solo yet peaceful few days in Virginia which also included meditation atop the mountains, conscious reading and poetic writing. It was the most enlightening and energetic methodology to kick off the new season. [Read more…]

Mazda Family Weekend at the Esteemed Boar’s Head Inn

Mazda_Family_Design_Forum_Weekend_Boar's_Head_Inn.23We love family weekends, road trips and quick getaways, especially when it involves the birthday of one of our two little girls. At nine and seven-years old, it is a very exploratory and transformative period for the family as we all learn new characteristics and habits about one another. But one thing’s for sure, both Mika and Aya love packing their bags, dragging along their stuffed animal friends and jumping in the back of an SUV for a few hours while envisioning what the hotel will look like and what amenities it will offer. If there is a pool then Mommy Misa and I have done our jobs!

Richmond Marathon: A “Fit Fathers” First!

1 Richmond_Marathon.11.10.2012bThey say pain is nothing but weakness leaving the body. I wholeheartedly agree and believe that every weak atom in my body must have been jettisoned during a 26.2 mile journey though Richmond, Virginia on November 10, 2012 — just a day after my 39thbirthday. The marathon was a first for this “Fit Father” and a testament of my strength, will, endurance and of course stamina while operating on a Vegan diet. With December marking the one-year anniversary eating plant-based foods, I am truly amazed at how quickly my figure and performance numbers have changed positively. The mission is now complete but the war for the betterment of life through healthy habits wagers on!

The gun sounds and a group of pretty fast marathoners surge from the crowd like greyhounds chasing rabbits. It could have been simple to follow suit while burning fuel reserves within the first hour. Yet, I remained calm and collective while triggering the coaching both Nina Russin and Chris Anderson offered during a short 6-week training period. [Read more…]

Operation SAFE Return – Jeep Hosts a Day of Service

Operation_SAFE_Return-Jeep_Hosts_a_Day_of_Service_10Some companies go above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to supporting America’s troops.  Jeep is one such company which has partnered with the USO to launch Operation S.A.F.E. Return, a program designed to give back and support our men and women in service defending this great nation.  To help with the remarkable outreach, Jeep and the USO enlisted the support of celebrity chef and retired Marine John Besh, actress Olivia Munn and Super Bowl Champion Ray Rice (Baltimore Ravens) for the grand opening of the new Warrior and Family Center in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
